I was in Docklands in London a coouple of weeks ago. I was staying in the one remaining bit that has still to grow and develop and is located around the Royal Victoria Dock and Excel Exhibition Centre. You can see very easily how the old co-habits with the new and how the new is displacing the old.
The two photos are taken opposite each other! One day soon there will be a new Millennium
Coffee bar on that site selling expressos and capaucinos at five times what the old cafe would have charged for tea and coffee. And when the Olympics comes to the East End that will be a second rebirth. I will be back in 2012 to see if my predictions come true.
If only the cafe could have held out for a few more months it would have been packing them in.
