Crikey! is a great Australian institution: an oneline news paper available on subscription only. Today’s edition quotes a new book by Margaret Simonscalled the Content Makers. She contrasts the cultures of News Corp and Fairfax.
She claims that one of NewsCorp’s strengths is its strong culture. She goes onto say: "One senior News Limited executive told me: ‘The thing about News is that it is really good at devolving power. It finds people that it trusts, and then you basically just get on with it. Then they work you hard and they make you part of everything.’ "
It is almost a definition for positive performance culture. It is not just about being challenged, but about belonging as well. You need both: the stretch, and the feeling of being part of a great team that really appreciates you, to really perform.
